While exploring a majestic cathedral in Porto, Portugal I came across this 'perfectly imperfect' archway bathed in beautiful light from the adjacent inner cloister. The partially opened doorway at the far end added an interesting element of curiosity to the overall composition.
While on a countryside excursion around Italy's Umbria region, our driver and guide took us along some back roads dividing vast wheat fields. He seemed a bit surprised (and rather amused) when I excitedly asked him to pull over by this unassuming and ancient Roman aqueduct to take some photos. I explained to our guide (who had grown up in the area) that if he ever traveled to Canada, he would enjoy many stunningly beautiful vistas - but not likely any ancient aqueducts!
