A quiet stroll through the woods sometimes offers a great reward and a moment of respect. This white-tailed deer saw me first, yet did not scamper off in fear. Instead, we both studied each other from a short ditance away until it decided I was no threat, resuming feeding on the young greens nearby until it was I who wandered off. An amazing encounter I won't soon forget!

Looking in this direction on a weekend morning at Toronto's Evergreen Brickworks one might think that I was alone on a secluded nature walk. In fact, the open-air farmers market directly behind me was bustling with patrons and families enjoying the simple togetherness of a local community treasure.
One can't help but wonder what this interspecies conversation might be about... Minutes from my home, I frequently visit the local pond with the hope of capturing little moments like this one. I am rarely disappointed!
